Have you taken a break from writing/reading/blogging?  What brought you back?

I have recently posted about my return to the book blogging world, and hopefully to working on my fantasy WiP again, and I am curious to know how other people have handled breaks.

I am passionate about reading, writing and blogging, and my break from those things was intentional.  I knew what I was doing, I knew I needed to spend time focusing on other things in my life, but I also had complete faith that I would return to them eventually.  To be completely honest, I am returning sooner than I originally expected.  I guess I just could not stay away!

Returning was something that I had been considering for a while now.  I was contacted by a few authors wanting me to review their books and, while I had to turn them down, each message brought me that little bit closer to coming back.  It was the message from Rinelle Grey, asking me to be her beta reader on a permanent basis, that finally drew me in the rest of the way.  You can read more about that on my previous post.

  1. I’m planning a break from social media to focus on writing book 3. I’ve had a bit of an unintentional break from writing in the last few months because of publishing and my useless attempts at marketing. It’s driving me crazy and I just want to get back into writing properly again. The kids still have a month off, so who knows when that will happen! Good luck with your return to writing etc.

I expect I’m also going to find unsuccessful marketing disappointing, but try not to let it get to you! You’re a great writer! And the more you write, the more you increase your chances of people discovering you 🙂 good luck!

  2. Sometimes taking a break is necessary and important! I took a break recently, too, because my grandmother fell ill and passed away and then I had some medical issues, and what it culminated to was two months where I really had to take time for my mental well-being and the well-being of my family. So I did. Because that’s a no-brainer. Eventually, I started feeling better and missing everything, and so I knew it was time to come back. 🙂

I think it’s easy to get burned out or overwhelmed if you don’t listen to yourself and understand when you need to take a step back or take a break for a little while. You can do more harm than good if you keep trying to push through when you feel like you should take a break.
